July 6, 2009 (A Braintree Residents, MUST READ)
Safety, Health, Environmental and Property Values ALERT!
Up to two million pounds of waste and trash could be transported up and down the route 37 corridor daily, six days a week. that includes Washington Street, Franklin Street, Pond Street and directly down South Street to a new proposed Waste Transfer Station on Holbrook's 3 Philips Road, just one half mile from the Braintree Town line.
June 19, 2009 (Safety and Health Concerns Along the Route 37 Corridor)
There have been several more meetings with the core team since we all last met. In fact, we are have two more core team meetings scheduled, one this month and one the beginning of July. We would like to expand the core team with several others members. Please let us know if you are interested.
Following those meeting we will provide the entire civic group with a full report, etc. Please visit this website for updates and progress reports.
Residents living along the Route 37 corridor (Franklin street, Washington street, Granite street, etc) need to know the safety, health and property value concerns and effects of between 80 and 125 dumpster and waste transfer trucks running along and through their neighborhoods as a result of the proposed Holbrook Waste Transfer Station. Consider 2 million pounds of waste and trash being carried along that corridor daily. Consider these trucks and air pollution rolling by school bus stops and pick-ups. Consider home value depreciation, on and on and on.
We have formed a civic group. Members from Holbrook, Randolph and Braintree are coming together to resist and challenge this. We have engaged the Toxics Action Center Organization of Boston to help us. We have established a leadership team of Braintree, Randolph and Holbrook leaders. We need you!

A civic group is forming. Several meeting have taken place. There are two informational video's, which are being edited to condense and will move it to You-Tube on the web for your consumption within a few weeks. Please come back here on how to access it.
On Saturday, February 14, I viewed these video's dealing with the Waste Transfer Station (WTS) in Brockton. The video's come from a group of Brockton residents who fought the expansion of the existing Waste Transfer Station and won. These video's are overwhelming; you need to see for yourself.
I believe when you view the video you will want to get involved at some level. I can say this. The WTS on Ivory Street in Braintree is pristene compared to what you will see on the video. The video's are a product of several years of resident's documentation.
It is likely some of those directly affected by the WTS will speak at a meeting being organized. When you hear from the residents who undertook the challenge in Brockton, you will come to understand what it is Braintree could experience as abutters of a Holbrook, Centre street waste transfer station just a mile from South Street in Braintree.
Our aim is provide you the information you need to be well informed.

There is nothing new to report at this time.
June 5, 2008
There is plenty of energy around the proposed Holbrook waste transfer station.
Last week I met with Holbrook Selectmen, Katherine Connolly. "Kathy" is a very supportive Braintree advocate. Kathy and I will work "hand-in-glove" as this proposal works it way through the Massachusetts State licensing process. To ease Braintree residents concerns, this process will take between 18 months and 24 months, minimum.
In a meeting with Mayor Sullivan this week, he assured me this issue is on his radar screen. I advised the Mayor of my active involvement and committed to keep you and him informed.
You may have read in the Ledger this past Saturday, May 31 in an article by Paula Donnelly (GateHouse News Services), that Holbrook is facing fines from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection if it doen't clean up contaminationat the proposed transfer station. You can see by this that Holbrook has many obstacles and issues facing it.
Thanks to the many of you in District 6 who have contacted me and are in the wings awaiting the "call to action". I assure you, through this newsletter, U.S mail, email and telephone, we will stay connected every step of the way. Please continue to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about this. Please remember I have regularly scheduled Councilor office hours each and every 3rd Thursday at 7:15PM at the Town Hall in the Council Chambers. Please take avantage of that. I am your advocate and committed to you.
I asked Selectmen Connolly to invite me to the Holbrook Board meetings each and everytime the waste transfer station is on the agenda. She has committed to do so.
Mayor Sullivan, State Representive Joe Driscoll, and our State Senators are being kept informed too.
Stay informed. Comeback regularly for news.
Your advocate,
-Dan Clifford-
Councilor, District 6
