Roads Program

June 21, 2008

On June 18, Mayor Joe Sullivan and Councilor Dan Clifford met with a couple dozen Christina drive, Fox Hill Drive and Oak Ledge Drive residents to inspect their roads. It was a pleasure to meet with you all.

We hope you feel as as good about the meeting as we do.  There have been steps taken already by the Mayor concerning the open lot with over grown bushes and trees covering the sidewalk along Christina Drive.  A letter has been sent to Messina Enterprises asking for immediate action and regular maintenence.

Moreover, we recorded a number of other items to follow-up.  These are:

  • New street signs
  • A "Go Slow Children" sign
  • Insuring you are kept up-to-date on when full road reconstruction can be scheduled
  • Reported below ground fire hydrant

Special thanks to Nancy McGrory and Avard Moore for their diligence and assistance helping to make this visit and inspection a success.

Your Advocate,

Dan Clifford

District 6, Town Councilor

The One Hundred Roads Program communications package requires  additional information to adequately inform our constituents.

I am working with DPW Committee Chairman, Councilor Ryan to obtain that, and last week met with Mayor Sullivan, following that meeting up with a summary letter requesting specific "Roads Program" information. Below are excerpts of that letter:

  • From a district perspective constituents need to know:
    • What roads will be repaired in FY’09, ’10 and ’11?  Right now there is no way of telling when work will be started.
    • Include the definitions of road repair to understand and set proper expectations of the scheduled planned work.
    • A softcopy of the spreadsheet is requested too, and should include additional data columns (detailed below).  The hardcopy spreadsheet issued to us currently includes:
      • Street
      • From
      • To
      • Length ft.
      • Side walks
      • Treatment Budget cost

  1. Request inclusion are:
    • Fiscal year in which work will be scheduled
    • Separate document that defines repair types (full reconstruction, micro-surfacing, grind and over-lay)
    • Specific District
    • Softcopy versions
